Work it.

I sat down for lunch yesterday with a new customer. He’s a young physician assistant, only in his first year of practice, and still learning about the mystical people known as “pharmaceutical sales reps” that regularly roll through his office. He warily sized me up as he sat down to eat; clearly the poor guy [...]

Moody swings.

Tuesday’s success was short lived in Nice Blood Sugar Department. Wednesday morning started with a low at dawn, which I baaaaarely treated because my BGs traditionally rise a bit when I wake up in the morning without any food. Despite my conservative efforts though, hours later I would end up in the 200s. The high [...]

Relief.

Apparently that variation on the Rain Dance I did, which I’ve renamed “please give me a goddamn break on these awful blood sugars dance” worked. The diabetes gods and their friends the gods of excise seemed to have brokered a deal and cut me some slack yesterday. Check out the Dex after my 60 minute kickboxing [...]

Didn’t that day just happen?

Deja vu all over again, as they say. After that nice, uplifting, sparkly blog post I wrote last week about my crappy blood sugars during last week’s bike ride, you’d think I’d be more understanding about the EXACT same thing happening the following Sunday. Except I’m not. I’m frustrated. I’m annoyed. And I feel like [...]

Kick Ass Kettle!

There’s a terrifying human being standing in front of me. He’s over six feet, with a chiseled, weathered face that looks like it’s seen a lot in this lifetime. His stature matches the visage - he’s in his late fifties but built like Mack Truck. His hands are behind his back, and his stance is [...]

Happy Easter and Passover!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend - and remember to watch out for that Easter Bunny - he’s got some ulterior motives! (Thanks to my buddy Rich for sending this awesome cartoon my way!) Have a happy, safe, and healthy weekend!

There’s really no good title for this crap…

What is that? A topographical map of the Rocky Mountains? Nope. That’s Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, and it sucked. What the hell happened you might ask? I’m not really sure, but it involved a charity event from 6pm - 8pm with apps and wine, a 9:30 mini dinner that I over-bolused for and then [...]

Maintenance.

Things I should do every day for my body, outside of anything diabetic: Ice each of my knees for 20 minutes after working out. Take an ibuprofen after workouts. Rest my back on a heat pad after driving all day for work. Use said heat pad for 20 minutes on each wrist to alleviate carpal [...]

Fresh air.

The morning began cool and misty, and I pedaled my bike from my house the mile or so to where some friends were waiting. I rolled up to the parking lot around a quarter to eight to greet three smiling faces of fellow Tour de Cure riders - all three of them dressed in their [...]

For tomorrow.

I had breakfast with customers on Friday morning and found myself (shockingly!) talking about living with diabetes. The doctors I was visiting that morning ran a busy primary care clinic, and were lamenting to me about their challenges of keeping their patients with diabetes well controlled. “What’s your A1c right now?” one doctor asked me, testing [...]
