It’s all in the timing…
Happy Friday party people! We made it.
I love diabetes gadgets - I’ve practically turned myself into a robot these days because I love them so much. So when the makers of Timesulin contacted me about their insulin pen caps that remind folks when they last dosed, I just had to know more. Back in the day before my pump, I was on a split dose of Lantus insulin, and would often forget exactly how many hours I had gone between shots. I tried to take my shots around the same time each day, but we all know how that little thing called life gets in the way.
Timesulin is a “smart cap” for insulin pens. It works by starting a clock every time the cap is removed and then replaced, thereby starting a “shot clock” since your last dose.
“The idea was born out of my own frustration as a Type 1 diabetic of over 25 years,” said Timesulin co-founder John Sjölund. “I manage my insulin injections with insulin pens and know all too well that a missed shot leads to raised blood sugar levels and causes drowsiness and body aches. At the same time, an accidental double dose has the opposite effect: blood sugar levels plummet, bringing on sweats and it can even cause a severe long & short term health complications. But mostly, it causes daily anxiety. I hate that. People with diabetes need a simpler way of knowing if they took their insulin, and when.”
John, I couldn’t agree more. When it comes to diabetes, anything that can makes things simpler and easier for people I’m a fan of. Learn more about the product at www.timesulin.com. And have a fantastic weekend!

Neat idea, John. BTW and FYI, timer caps for pill bottles have been around for many years, some record the time(s) the bottle is opened and some sound an alert when the next dose is due. Used both for home patients and those in clinical trials to track compliance. I wonder if a timer feature would have any similar value with a pen cap?
I agree, good idea. I have certainly given myself insulin while doing something else and then question myself 10 minutes later when I am eating, “Did I take my insulin”, not a good feeling. I usually will just wait 20 minutes post eating and test my BS and can usually tell pretty quick if I did or not. Would be interesting if somehow could tell you how many units you took by the twist of the dial or some measure because sometimes ill forget what I just dosed. Overall very interesting and look forward to seeing it on the market.

Alexis - thank you so much for posting this. Keep up the good work!
Wishing you a happy, sunny Friday.
Love.
