The Tallygear Tummietote!
The most wonderful thing about the diabetes online community is that it’s ability to crowd source for answers to tough questions is unparalleled. No sooner did I blog about my struggle to find something to carry my CGM and PDM in during running did I receive and email from a woman named Donna, who had just the thing.
Donna’s daughter Tally was diagnosed with diabetes in 2007, and within one year she started pumping. Donna quickly realized that if she wanted her daughter to have safe, easy access to her pump and sugar for lows, she needed to make an easy way for Tally to carry all her dia-gear. As Donna says on her website “Tally is a very active child and the standard packs she used weren’t right for her. Within a month, we realized we needed to design something that worked better for her lifestyle. After many many months, and many yards of fabric and hundreds of belts tallygear was born in November 2008.”
Tallygear’s main product is the Tummietote, which is a lightweight band of stretch fabric with three pockets (although they have many different styles, and most can be customized as well!). When I complained a few weeks ago of the running packs not having a clear cover on them so I could check my CGM, Tallygear came to the rescue with her Tummietote. Donna was kind enough to send me one in plain black with one pocket that has a clear window in front(similar to the one pictured) and yesterday morning I took it for a test drive. Because the fabric was so slick, I thought for sure that it would be bouncing all over the place. But because you secure the belt with Velcro, not buckles, and
because the fabric is strectchy, I was able to fasten it just tight enough around my waist so that it didn’t bounce and it didn’t restrict my breathing whatsoever. And throughout the run, I was easily able to reach down and read my CGM (and just to make everything that much more awesome, I was having a pretty doggone good blood sugar day to boot!). Overall, I have to say the Tummietote exceeded my expectations, and I think I’ve found the solution to my “carry-all” problems.
Tallygear is a wonderful example of how a someone said that what is available just isn’t good enough for my kid with diabetes, and Donna set out to make something better. Check out all her awesome products at www.tallygear.com! Many thanks to Donna for reaching out!
