Yours truly just got a name drop in a new book on Diabetic Athletes

Dr. Sheri Colberg is an author who has 8 books about living well with diabetes - focusing on exercise, healthy lifestyle choices, aging, and most recently, a handbook for the Diabetic Athlete. Dr. Colberg has also had diabetes for 40+ years, so she speaks from experience. Her most recent book covers diabetes management for athletes in a variety of sports.

I contributed to her research for the book back in 2007, offering some pearls on adjusting glucose levels and insulin for two of my favorite sports - kickboxing and surfing. At the time I was on a different diabetes care regimen, but the information remains relevant to those who use that approach.

Sheri’s writing style is to offer a variety of tips via quotes from people with diabetes all over the world. She recognizes that one size does not fit all with diabetes, and therefore she provides a variety of perspectives and suggestions for diabetes management. Her use of real-life stories helps make the advice believable - we all know as people with diabetes how hard it is to take suggestions from people that haven’t “been there.” Sheri has a variety of books available as well as a worthwhile blog and other interesting material on her website. If you happen to pick up “The Diabetic Athlete’s Handbook,” check me out on pages 144 and 255! (Did anyone else just read those numbers and think…“decent bloodsugar and not so good…” I am such a diabetic nerd…)
